My Missing Tooth Is Bothering Me. What Should I Do?

Missing teeth can be humiliating, prompting people to hide their smiles and suffer from low self-esteem. The hole left by missing teeth is quickly infected with bacteria, causing other teeth to shift out of place and making it difficult to speak or eat properly. The Odin House Dental team understands the difficulties that a lost tooth can cause. This is why we provide dental implant solutions so that our patients can reclaim their self-esteem, enhance their health, and face life with confidence.

Implants are the only solution that actually replaces your tooth root. This means they feel and function like natural teeth. After receiving an implant, there is no need for maintenance or removal. Dental Implants can be very convenient, too. They act like your regular teeth. You constantly wear them and care for them as you would your own.

Why Dental Implants?

While you do choose what to replace your missing tooth or teeth with,  dentures or implants, implants are far more superior than dentures. They act like your regular teeth and will be there without issues for many years to come.

However, you do have a choice to have a partial denture put in, in some cases. This is a less permanent solution that will need to be removed each night and cleaned separately from your teeth. Denture options also don’t help you at your tooth’s root level, leading to other problems later on. If you are interested in finding out more about your denture options or dental implants, give our office a call at 08-9468-7182 today!

What Is Involved in Getting Dental Implants?

Dental implants will require surgery. This surgery will be minor compared to other surgeries you might have had in the past. Many times this can be done right in the office under general anesthesia. We ask that you bring someone with you who can drive to help you get home and take care of yourself after the procedure. However, most of our patients recover from dental implant surgery in only a few days.

What to Expect After Getting Dental Implants

After surgery, patients will be instructed to avoid certain foods and medications that can affect healing.

  • Patients should avoid smoking for at least 24 hours after surgery.
  • Drinking alcohol or taking any medication containing aspirin (aspirin-containing products) is not advised for at least 48 hours after surgery because this can increase the risk of bleeding or swelling in the mouth. Ibuprofen (Advil®, Motrin®) should also be avoided for 2 days after your procedure.
  • Soft/liquid foods are suggested until your sutures are removed, and your mouth begins to heal (approximately 7-10 days). Hard foods such as ice chips or nuts may then be reintroduced gradually over time as long as they don’t cause pain while chewing them (usually 3 weeks. However, it is important to talk with our dentist before eating anything solid again. If you have any discomfort while doing so – it may indicate an infection which should be addressed immediately by contacting our team!

If you have a missing tooth that bothers you, you should give Odin House Dental a call at 08-9468-7182 right away.
