What to Expect

Procedure

Treatment begins with a through oral exam and cleaning prior to starting the bleaching process. When you have your treatment, we’ll cover your lips and gums while leaving the teeth exposed. We will then apply the Zoom hydrogen peroxide gel which will work with the Zoom light to break down stains and discolouration. The gel is applied three times during your appointment. We recommend you bring some music to listen to!

Note: You may feel sensitivity during and after the treatment but this is usually minor and only lasts a few hours

Post-Bleaching Care

After your whitening treatment, you can take steps to help maintain your new brilliance.

• The first and most obvious is to ensure you are practising proper oral hygiene. Brushing twice daily, flossing, and rinsing with mouthwash are essential in protecting your teeth from stains. Regular oral exams and routine cleanings also help.
• Avoiding stain offenders like coffee, tea, red wine, soft drinks, curry-based foods and tobacco as they can also contribute to staining.
• Certain oral hygiene products are better than others for cleaning and protecting your mouth. Ask our dentists for recommendations based on your current oral health and lifestyle habits that may affect your teeth.

What are some of the causes of teeth stains?

Your teeth are exposed every day to the risk of being stained. While you can control some of the causes to reduce the damage, others are unavoidable. The biggest offenders for teeth discolouration include foods and drinks,disease, genetics, medication, poor dental hygiene, tobacco use, trauma and age.

While some forms of staining can be avoided through lifestyle changes (avoiding soft drinks, tea and coffee, avoiding curries, quitting smoking etc), other agents of discolouration are outside of our control.

Routine dental exams and cleaning can help keep teeth clean and healthy, but sometimes you need a little more. That’s why we offer the proven Zoom! teeth whitening service at our Perth dental practice.

Is ZOOM Teeth Whitening safe?

Our Zoom Whitening treatment does not damage or weaken the enamel of your teeth and is a proven, safe and effective treatment.

How long will it take to whiten my teeth?

Most patients only need a single visit to get the desired result. A single treatment can improve the colour by up to 6 shades of white. Store-bought treatments, if they are effective, can take one or two weeks of use before you will see results.

Does it hurt to have teeth whitening?

The actual procedure does not hurt, but you may experience an increased sensitivity during and immediately after the procedure. This is perfectly normal and typically goes away quite soon afterwards. Your teeth may also be a little sensitive to hot and cold liquids for a few days.

How long will teeth whitening last?

The bleaching is not permanent, but with good oral hygiene and staying away from food and drink that can stain, results can last for over a year. A major causes of teeth losing their whiteness is foods like curries, tea, coffee or fizzy soft drinks that can stain your teeth.

Will whitening my teeth damage my teeth?

Professional teeth whitening done in a dentist’s practice does not cause permanent damage to the enamel on your teeth, and is considered harmless by most dental health professionals. Brushing your teeth incorrectly may be more harmful to your enamel than a professional whitening session.

Does teeth whitening work for all stains?

Teeth whitening generally works best on surface level yellowish-brown stains compared to grey stains which may have come from age, decay or antibiotic treatments such as Tetracycline. For the deeper intrinsic stains, multiple treatments may be required.
