Dentures are an option for replacing missing teeth. They are a removable plate which hold one or more artificial teeth and can be good option if your jawbone cannot support dental implants.
Full Dentures: Full dentures are used when there are no teeth on the upper or lower jaws. Both top and bottom dentures rely on the gum ridge and suction created by the denture for stability.
Partial Dentures: Partial dentures are used when there are only a few teeth missing. It is a removable dental appliance that helps restore the function and form of your jaw and will help stop your remaining teeth from moving.
Appointments
During your initial visit we will perform an oral examination, x-rays and impressions. We will also discuss the shade, size and shape of your new teeth. At your next appointment we will discuss your bite to ensure your upper and lower teeth line correctly. We will also create a wax mock up which will allow you to understand the look and feel of your dentures before finalising the set. Your last appointment will be your insertion date when you get to leave with your new set of dentures.
Maintenance
Dentures are taken out every night and require daily cleaning with a denture brush and cleaner. Overnight they can be soaked in denture solution. Even with dentures, regular dental check ups are still necessary to have your dentures examined and professionally cleaned. We will also make sure your dentures still have a proper fit to prevent slippage and discomfort. And with any check up, we will also examine the inside of your mouth to make sure it’s healthy. Call us today to discuss your denture options.

Dentures stay in place by fitting snugly to the underlying gum and bone tissue, with a thin layer of saliva between the gums and the denture helping to seal them in place. The more the denture can connect to the surface area, the better the seal.
Depending on various factors, some people will get longer wear out of the dentures than others. Most denture wearers get five to seven years out of their dentures. Factors such as how often you wear your dentures, your level of bone resorption, and personal denture care will determine how long they will last.
When you first start wearing false teeth, you should eat mainly soft foods. Foods such as steak, raw vegetables, and raw fruit will be too difficult for a denture wearer to bite and chew. Over the first 12 months, we’ll show you how to introduce harder and chewier foods. Good choices include hot cereals, broth, soups, scrambled eggs, pudding, mashed potatoes, mashed or well-cooked vegetables, juice, yoghurt, cooked stews and pasta.
After each meal, we recommend that you rinse and clean both your natural teeth as well as dentures. We’ll show you how to do this at your appointment with a denture brush and a little soap and water.
